Link Fight Club
Link Fight Club – There should be a new organization named this “coming soon”….. Suddenly, the question is a hot topic regarding whether or not any website has the right to link to any other website with public information!
What is public information? Public information should be any information that is publicly posted online for the world to see. Every website has the ability to set up security measures and privacy blockers to prevent the public from viewing or visiting their web pages and if they choose not to do this, then it is open game for linking to their information.
For the most part, people consider it to be a favor to be linked to, rather than an unwelcome advance of some sort.
However, commercialism being what it sometimes can be….. There are apparently companies that are attempting to prevent certain public websites from linking to them so that they can perhaps even charge $$ for the “privilege” to link to their public information…..so that they can control who are the haves and the have nots…..so that they can decide which commercial and political organizations will have the right to so much as reference their public information and link to it for ease of “cyber traveling.”
Before I started reading about this, this evening, I must admit, I never even considered the possibilities involved in such a linking war as have now begun….
The question of the “right to link” – (notice that I have just linked here to an article about this “right to link” controversy…) is now being debated, much like many other greed-induced, petty conflicts have arisen throughout history and have hit the courthouses making people with legitimate, deeply meaningful cases sit in line waiting their turn….
Here’s what this brought to my mind….
I heard that in previous years, bloggers around the country were ensuring that unpleasant phrases brought up the website, whitehouse.gov in search engines because there were such a massive number of bloggers using text links to ensure that this would happen.
So……. now some companies want to ensure that people are being forced to pay for the right to link to their publicly listed information or web content…. and as such are finding ways to block people from linking to their websites….and I am wondering if they really, truly have the capabilities necessary to block everyone….maybe they have the technology to block everyone and only hand out api key links of some sort?….but then….couldn’t anyone who wanted to just go grab those links and put them on their own sites? or does it connect from the website specifically so that the link has to come from that site? or…. I need to learn more about that kind of technology….how to do all of that, because that is interesting and so then, do they have more advanced technology than the government or are they just more greedy than the government?
So many questions!!!
The Link Fight Club is apparently a new campaign called the right2link. —- (See! I linked to that too, but I know that they would approve!)
Now I am going to start feeling like….am I doing something bad or naughty every time I link to another website? Are they going to have a problem with it? Is this link an acceptable link or is it “inappropriate linkage.”
Seriously folks….does this whole ordeal seem infantile and hilariously stupid to anyone else but me? I know that a bunch of people disagree with anyone who would control the “right to link” and that’s great…. The idea that any company, corporation or organization could step up and attempt to change the entire foundation of cyberspace itself by complicating Internet navigation is outrageous! It’s ludicrous! It’s INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who the heck do these people think they are??!!!
I say, let’s all take a moment to protect our online rights and why the heck isn’t some big group like Google or Bill Gates or someone big and strong enough already putting the kabosh on this ridiculous commercial venture to restrict the rights of the online public to link to public information?
Why should any company be allowed to be so lazy that they don’t even protect their information with privacy standards, and then they start blocking the public from linking to their info? They call it stealing their information or their content that they publicly post??!! Give me a break! The issues aren’t about plagiarism or copying content. This link fight club is all about greedy corporations attempting to control and dominate the world one link at a time…….
Too funny….too stupid….. Let’s not let this happen people….
